Transport Proteins- Regulate the movement of water-soluble molecules through the membrane.
TWO TYPES:
- Channel Proteins- Form pores that allow smaller, water-soluble molecules to enter/exit the membrane (Passive Transport--Door)
- Carrier Proteins- Contain binding sites that require ATP energy to aid in the movement of molecules across the membrane (Active Transport--Endo- & Exocytosis--No size discrimination)
